Abstract

This paper presents the Rankine source panel method for the hydrodynamic analysis of two dimensional submerged body moving with a constant speed beneath a free surface. The free surface condition is linearised by the systematic perturbation method about the mean free surface and the Neumann boundary condition is used. The two dimensional body is approximated by line panels on which there are only constant source distributions. The method of image is used for satisfying the linearised free surface condition and all the terms in the fundamental solution of the strength of the sources are integrated over a line panel. The pressure distribution on the circular cylinder as well as on a number of hydrofoils is calculated and then compared with the analytical and the experimental results to check the validity of the numerical results.
