Abstract

This research aims to determine the possibility of Eucheuma cottonii seaweed cultivation based on soil substrate aspects at Barombong Beach, Makassar, Indonesia. The research was carried out for 2 (two) months, namely from February to March 2021 by conducting 2 (two) sampling times, namely at the beginning and end of the research by taking 3 observation stations, namely- Station 1 (ST 1), which is located around community settlements, Station 2 (ST 2), which is located around the Barombong Sports Building and Station 3 (ST 3), which is located around the Jeneberang River Estuary. The data obtained were collected, and then processed and analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results showed that based on the aspect of the soil substrate, the research location was still able to cultivate Eucheuma cottonii seaweed with the value of each parameter, namely - the highest phosphate content obtained at Station (ST 2) with a value of 8.69 ppm. The highest soil substrate pH value was obtained at Station (ST 3) with a pH value of 8. The highest nitrogen content of soil substrate was obtained at Station (ST 1) which was 0.106 ppm. Furthermore, the highest soil organic matter content was obtained at Station (ST 2) with a value of 0.36 ppm.
