Abstract
The full-vectorial finite difference method (FV-FDM) is applied to perform modal solution to photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). The effects of geometrical parameters of the circular and elliptical holes on the effective index, the dispersion and the effective mode area of the fundamental mode have been studied. PCF structure showing dispersion of 0+1.288 ps/nm.km over the wavelength range from 1.3 um to 1.8 um has been reported. The applicability of using PCF as a pressure sensor has been discussed.
