Abstract

Using a dipole model, the transmission efficiency and the energy distribution of photoelectrons emitted into vacuum by transmission-mode negative electron affinity GaAs photocathodes have been calculated. In contrast to a previous result, the calculation shows that the emitted photoelectrons mainly originate from the X1, rather than Gamma 1, energy valley. The shape and width of the energy distribution curves calculated coincide well with the experimental result of Phillips et al. in 1984.
