Abstract

Objective Through the analysis of papers published by nursing staff in an upper first-class hospital in Guangxi province from 2009 to 2013, this paper aimed to find out the regularities, problems, and countermeasures, then provide empirical reference for promoting the progress of the nursing research. Methods Documentary metrology method was used to describe and analyze the distribution characteristics of published year, as well as professional title, educational background and length of service of the first authors. Results In these five years, nursing staff in the hospital had published 435 papers, 129 papers were published in core journals; the number of papers accelerated annually, the average published number per author was 0.18; the majority of the papers published by authors with middle professional title, junior college and working more than 20 years, which were more than 65%; the core authors were formed, elite authors were fine enough, but the quantity of the author group was deficient. Conclusions The amount of paper increased annually as a whole, the average number of paper published per author showed the features of great fluctuation, and the quality of those papers should be improved. High qualification nurses published the majority of the papers, while junior nurses would be potential authors who should publish more papers. We should establish excitation mechanism, strengthen scientific research consciousness, attach more importance to the cultivation of scientific research ability, and comprehensively improve the research level of the nurses.
