Abstract

ABSTRACT In 1989, Oryx Energy Company conducted personal interview surveys with 13 Gulf of Mexico operators to quantify various operating practices, philosophies, and techniques. Production statis-tics and economic indicators were also compiled. The companies surveyed included Amoco Production Company, Arco Oil and Gas Company, Conoco Inc., Forest Oil Corporation, Kerr McGee Corporation, Marathon Oil Company, Oryx Energy Company, Pennzoil Exploration & Production Company, Samedan Oil Corporation, Unocal, and others. As a result of analyzing the information, Oryx undertook a major restructuring of its Gulf of Mexico operation. In addition, other survey participants have started organizational and/or operational changes of their own.
