Abstract

The distribution of temperature and pressure, electromagnetic fields, and the structure of flow under the effect of an external transverse magnetic field are determined using a three-dimensional magnetogasdynamic model of a steady-state curved arc. The calculation results are consistent with the experimentally observed properties of the arc, such as stabilizing effect of current strength and the magnetogasdynamic mechanism of arc extinction.
