Abstract

Objective To investigate the state of tear film of patients with horizontal strabismus disease. Methods The conditions of ocular surface of 82 patients with extropia and 67 with esotropia were examined by Oculus anterior segment analyzer, including tear meniscus height, tear meniscus height after irritation, redness index, non-invasive BUT, average BUT. Results The tear meniscus height in the exotropia patients was 0.21±0.06mm, and that of esotropia was 0.17±0.05mmmm. The first BUT and average BUT of all patients were less than 6s and 7s. The average conjunctival index of exotropia and esotropia were 0.83±0.37 and 2.03±0.90 respectively. For the same gender, esotropia patients had a worse ocular surface condition than exotropia. Conjunctival redness index were bigger along with age increase for both strabismus. Conclusions Patients are combined with dry eye and inflammation beside strabismus. Ocular surface examination should be paid attention to before operation in order to prevent complications around operation. Key words: Strabismus; Tear film; Ocular surface
