Abstract

A method based on the continuous media technique is presented for the analysis of multi-bay shear wall structures. In this procedure the governing equation is formulated and the solution is sought by the matrix orthogonalisation method. The analysis is adaptable to automatic computation and is also feasible for hand calculation for up to 4 wall assemblies. A comparison is made between the theoretical and experimental deflection of Perspex-model tests. The close agreement obtained between these results indicates that this procedure is sufficiently accurate and practical for the analysis of shear walls with slender connecting beams.
