Abstract
Mortar specimens from the castle keep in the Spanish town of Priego de Cordoba were examined by X-ray and Raman spectroscopies with a view to its restoration. The keep mortars and its masonry were found to consist basically of lime. The stones showed signs of deterioration by effect of fungal action on carbonate substrates. Additionally, the mortars contained ground local rocks as aggregate material.
