Abstract
AbstractThe article focuses on methods used for surface layer quality evaluation of metal products commonly manufactured by the SLM–method (technology of selective laser melting of super alloys). The technology is supposed to be the most perspective in the aircraft-industry. Lightweight construction is getting more attractive for machine-building enterprises as a single–component price is reduced due to less material consumption. Lighter components result in lighter weight; thus, it saves operational energy consumption. Despite the obvious advantages the method offers, there are still some disadvantages: It is very difficult to forecast inherent characteristics of products manufactured by the SLM-method. It happens because of many variable factors involved in the technological process, and the product faultless performance coupled with its durability are determined by the product size and shape accuracy. The authors believe that the product material surface layer characteristics make a dominant impact on the performance characteristics of products. The article outlines the interrelation between performance characteristics and material surface layer quality. The main criteria for surface layer quality control are introduced. Traditional as well as modern evaluation methods used for surface layer quality control have been observed and analyzed.KeywordsAdditive technologiesSLM-methodSurface layer quality
