Analysis of Maker Education Status and Expectations in Korean Schools - Focusing on Elementary and Middle School Teachers' Perception

Abstract

본 연구는 학교 교육에서의 메이커 교육 현황과 향후 메이커 교육에 대한 교사의 기대를 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 전국 초·중학교 교사 1,143명(초등교사 639명, 중등교사 504명)을 층화추출 표집하여 설문조 사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저 메이커 교육 현황과 관련하여, 교사들의 메이커 교육에 관한 이해 정도는 다소 미흡한 수준 이었고, 교사들의 메이커 교육 관련 수업 경험의 양과 다양성도 다소 부족하였다. 그러나 대부분 교사들이 메이커 교육이 교실 수업을 개선 하는 데 효과가 있다고 생각하고 있었다. 다음으로 향후 메이커 교육에 관한 기대와 관련하여, 초·중학교 교사 모두 환경 조건 및 교사 전문 성 조건 모두에 대하여 높은 기대 수준을 지니고 있었다. 그리고 초· 중학교 교사들 모두 창의적 체험활동 시간의 적합성을 가장 높게 평가 하고 있었다(초 72.5%, 중 66.9%). 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 볼 때, 향후 학교에서의 메이커 교육 활성화를 위해서는 메이커 교육에 대한 교사 의 전문성 신장 노력과 메이커 교육 실천을 위한 교육환경 조성을 위 한 연구와 정책이 추진되어야 할 것으로 보인다.This study aims to analyze the status of maker education in school education and the teacher s expectations for maker education in the future. 1,143 elementary and middle school teachers nationwide (639 elementary and 504 secondary school teachers) were sampled by a stratified method. The results of the study are as follows. First of all, concerning the status of the maker education, the degree of understanding of the maker education by the teachers was somewhat insufficient, and the amount and variety of the teachers experience in the maker education-related class were also somewhat lacking. Most teachers, however, believed that the maker education was effective in improving classroom classes. Next, regarding expectations for future maker education, both primary and secondary school teachers had high expectations for both environmental and teachers’ expertise conditions. And both primary and secondary school teachers rated the high appropriateness of creative experiential activities time (72.5% of the seconds and 66.9% of the time). Based on the above results, it seems that research and policy to create an educational environment for teacher s advancement of expertise on maker education and enhancement of practice in the education will have to be pursued to revitalize maker education in the future.
