Abstract

Based on the comparative study of the magnetic suspension characteristic of high speed bearingless machines and machines with magnetic bearings, this paper introduces a new structure of high speed permanent magnet (PM) bearingless machine with 2-pole integrated PM rotor covered by a magnetically conductive enclosure. The dynamic magnetic levitation force of the high speed PM bearingless machine is analyzed by means of field-circuit coupled finite element method. The simulation results show the feasibility of the proposed high speed 2-pole PM bearingless machine.
