Abstract

This paper describes the effect of variations of permanent magnet shape on the strength of the rotor structure of the axial flux permanent magnet generator (AFPMG). Magnets with rectangular and trapezoidal shapes are selected as models of variation in this paper. The shape of magnet affects the value of air gap magnetic flux density (Bg) and the heat distribution in the AFPMG. This Bg and heat then used as an input parameter for deflection analysis due to axial force and heat occur on the rotor of AFPMG. The value of axial force and the heat will affect the rotor structure, especially related to the deflection of the rotor disk. The result showed that the magnet with rectangular shape has greater rotor deflection compared with trapezoidal magnet.
