Abstract

More than half of the oil wells fund in the Russian Federation is operated with the help of electric submersible pumps providing up to 75% of all oil produced in the country. However, electric submersible pumps have a rather high specific energy consumption in the extraction borehole fluid. The greatest difficulty is the definition of losses in the submersible motor cable. The author has received analytical expressions for the calculation of the adjusted power losses in the cable of electric submersible pump units. Loss depends on the length and area of the cable, the average temperature and the electric current. Determination of the cable average temperature is challenging. The temperature along the wellbore can be approximately described by a linear law. However, it should also take into account many factors: the heating electric current cable, the flowing pumped liquid, which, in turn, is heated by the heat operated submersible pump unit. We construct a graph for the current flowing cable loss at different temperatures and for different cable line lengths. The research results will help to improve the accuracy of calculating the energy performance of downhole pumps and to optimize their operating modes.
