Abstract

This work examined the corrosion rates and surface morphologies of corrosion product films for 2205 DSS in extreme sour environment. The localized corrosion formed on 2205 DSS’s surface at different pH2S were highlighted to provide information for corrosion behaviour of 2205 DSS. The uniform corrosion rates were calculated by weight loss while the pitting rate were determined by using a profilometer, respectively. There are 3 conditions mode can be relating to H2S parameter, which is control condition (0 bar), aggressive condition (3 bar) and saturated condition (15 bar). The results illustrated that the passive films became more protective at saturated mode. Meanwhile pitting corrosion was dominated by 3 bar pH2S at aggressive mode. In addition, the XPS results found that increasing the pressure of H2S will improving the metal sulfides formation. Finally, corrosion behaviour and an evolution of element composition of 2205 DSS was then discussed.
