Abstract
This paper contains an analysis of Linux as a real-time kernel. Linux is used in numerous devices but not in the time critical devices. The performance of Linux as a RTOS is analyzed between the 4.18 and 2.4 Kernel. The analysis is done by using a benchmarking tool named LmBench. It in breif it can be stated that the real-time performance of Linux is increased a lot due by the introduction of PREEMPT_RT Linux real-time extensions, and now it is capable to handle the real-time task.
