Abstract

It was necessary to place electronic equipment imbedded into the fuselage of a plane so that the top of the equipment enclosure was flush with the fuselage on either side. The equipment contained an antenna mounted on top of a metal enclosure containing the electronics. Both the antenna and metal enclosure are enveloped in a waterproof non-conductive enclosure. The concern is that either a direct lightning strike or the high E and H fields associated with a nearby strike will damage or disrupt the electronics.
