Abstract

The buckling deformation of a structure consisting of a soft substrate and a hard thin film induces autonomous formation of a fine periodic structure represented by wrinkles. In recent years, a hierarchical wrinkle structure in which wrinkles with different periods are superimposed has attracted attention, and its engineering application is expected. However, no methodology has been established for structural control. In this study, we investigate the mechanism of autonomous formation of hierarchical wrinkle structure using thin film-winkle spring substrate system.
