Abstract
The paper gives measured statistics of interfering signals in the HF band, and uses these results to gain an improved understanding of the operation of various digital communication systems in the presence of interference. A novel diversity combiner and a frequency-hopping modem have been constructed using the statistics as design aids, and the systems exhibit good operation in interference.
