Abstract

Direct nuclear pumping of a CO2 laser system by the U-235(n,ff)FF reaction is examined. Calculations based on a kinetic model which takes into consideration all relevant kinetic processes indicate that dissociation of CO2 prevents the efficient operation of a nuclear pumped CO2 laser system.
