Abstract

The large area of land subsidence caused by coal mining has a strong impact on the living of local people and the ecological environment. The efficient strategy to govern the coal mining subsidence area according to their characteristics is the key to local sustainable development. Currently, there are lots of successful governing cases, but there is still a lack of a summary of relevant governance methods and experiences. Based on the previous research and experiences, we analyze three potential factors that may influence the selection of governance modes of the coal mining subsidence. Then, five typical governance modes and their application conditions are further summarized. Based on the spatial distribution of the coal mining area, regional geographical environment, and economic development level, the coal mining area in China is divided into five different regions and the optimal governance model for each region is proposed. These results can serve as good guidance for the governance planning of the coal mining subsidence area in China.
