Abstract

The method of multiple scales is used to determine a fourth order expansion of the galloping amplitude of cantilever beams. The lift wind force is assumed to be given by a general fifth order polynomial in the effective flow incidence. The results show that, in addition to determining the amplitude of oscillation, the odd power terms modify its frequency. Moreover, the even power terms affect both the amplitude and frequency of the response.
