Abstract
A special three dimensional finite element was developed for the strain analysis of fiber reinforced plastic vessels containing discontinuities such as manhole connections or nozzles. The element handles the many anisotropic layers by using a different elastic constant matrix for each lamina orientation. Results obtained from a cylindrical vessel show good agreement with classical lamination theory and experimental results.
