Abstract

This paper presents the analysis of various ferroresonance suppression circuits (FSCs) in 132 KV Capacitive Voltage Transformers (CVTs). Simulation studies are conducted on 132 kV Trench CVT using Electro-Magnetic Transients Program (EMTP). In this paper, ferroresonance is initiated in CVT by circuit breaker switching. The ferroresonance mitigation performances of these FSC methods are then evaluated and compared. In addition, the transient response of the CVT due to power system fault is also investigated for the different types of FSC circuits. It is demonstrated in this paper that, the transient performance of CVT with electronic type FSC delivered the best results in comparison to active or passive ferroresonance mitigation circuits.
