Abstract

Radial and thrust load characteristics for partial sphere configurations are presented. The nature of static instability under certain loadings is explained in terms of variable film thickness and the position of the feed slots. Charts are derived which show the interaction between loading in one direction and the deflection in a normal direction. The conditions of optimum design are discussed for the bearing geometry and pressure ratio.
