Abstract
The inherent irreversibility and thermal stability in a long hollow cylinder with temperature-dependent internal heating and asymmetric convective cooling at both inner and outer surfaces is investigated. Analytical solution is obtained for the governing equation and the expressions for the temperature field, thermal stability criterion, volumetric entropy generation number, and irreversibility distribution ratio are presented. With certain combinations of the heat transfer parameters, entropy generation rates can be minimized.
