Abstract

Analysis is provided for electrolytic chromizing and flame spraying used for strengthening plungers in the manufacture of sucker-rod deep-well pumps. The main disadvantages of these strengthening methods are indicated. A new method is proposed for strengthening plungers using cold electrolytic iron plating. Operation of test specimens of sucker-rod well pumps under industrial conditions, fitted with plungers strengthened by cold iron plating, demonstrate an advantage over chromizing and flame spraying. An increase in operating life by a factor of 1.2–1.3 is established.
