Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) on women with cervical condyloma acuminatum (CA).Methods A total of 65 patients with cervical CA in the dermatology of Shantou Central Hospital from March 2011 to September 2012 were divided into treatment group (35 cases) and control group (30 cases) according random number method. The treatment group received ALA-PDT therapy once a week, and clinical efficacy was determined after treatment for 1 ~ 4 times. The control group carried out fulguration treatment. Two groups were followed up for 3 months. Results In treatment group,4 cases after 1 treatment,6 patients after 2 treatments,16 cases after 3 treatments and 8 cases after 4 treatments achieved complete remission, the complete remission rate was 97.1% (34/35),recurence rate was 5.9% (2/34).In control group,26 patients after 1 treatment,4cases after several treatments achieved complete remission, the complete remission rate was 100% (30/30),the recurrence rate was 26.7% (8/30).The difference of complete remission rates between two groups was not statistically significant (P > 0.05),but the recurrence rate of the control group was significantly higher than the treatment group (x2 =6.478,P<0.05).Conclusions ALA-PDT therapy on cervical CA has good efficacy and low recurrence rate.It is easy to operate and well tolerated as a new clinical method.
