Abstract

An Analysis of a dual three-phase induction machine under open-circuit operating conditions is presented in this paper. A fast analytical method of determining the harmonic content of the MMF distribution in the air gap is derived by means of a symmetrical component analysis of the stator winding MMF. The method summarizes the harmonics into groups of infinite Fourier series, which simplifies the analysis especially in post-fault operation. Furthermore, the post-fault load capability for constant loads was determined with phase currents exceeding the rated value. A steady-state thermal model was used to predict the current-ratings for post-fault operation. Experimental tests were carried out for the purposes of verification.
