Abstract
In order to investigate and verify the method of fracture prediction [K. S. Zhang, Numerical prediction of fracture for TPB specimen of no.45 steel. Engng Fracture Mech. 51, 661–667 (1995)] further, the analysis of numerical simulation to predict the deformation, fracture initiation and crack propagation for a three point bending (TPB) specimen of a steel with high ductility has been carried out in the present paper, by using the parameter of the combinatorial work density model determined from simulation analysis only according to the load-elongation curve of a uniaxial tension experiment [K. S. Zhang, Fracture prediction and necking analysis. Engng Fracture Mech. 52, 575–582 (1995)]. From the comparison of simulation with experiment, it is confirmed that the method can reasonably represent the process of fracture in the crack tip area and can fairly accurately predict the material's toughness.
