Abstract

Composite materials play a vital role in most advanced engineering applications. This paper deals with the analysis of composite materials using MATLAB code. A generalized code is written using the classical laminate plate theory for analyzing the composite laminate. The mechanical properties, the number of plies, the orientation of plies and the thickness of each lamina are used as inputs for coding and the resultant global and local stresses and strains are determined. The results are used for failure analysis of the laminate for the applied loads and in case of failure of the laminates, immediate reanalysis is possible by changing the ply thickness or orientation or the number of layers or the combination of the above.
