Abstract

Two-dimensional full particle electromagnetic particle-in-cell simulations are used in order to reproduce and analyze in details the intrinsic turbulence of the terrestrial collisionless bow shock. In order to compare numerical results and local experimental measurements performed by the four-satellite space mission CLUSTER, one has developed ldquovirtual proberdquo techniques crossing the ldquonumericalrdquo shock in order to mimic the real CLUSTER mission. Numerical results shown in this paper illustrate the measurements of a turbulent macroscopic magnetic field obtained through a time-varying and inhomogeneous shock front.
