Abstract

In this paper, a coaxial probe coupled wideband two-layer hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with an air-gap has been investigated. The approach of generalized reflection and transmission coefficients is used to formulate the full wave Green's function. The method of moment technique is used to compute the probe current with sinusoidal basis and testing functions. Thereafter, the input impedance, reflection coefficient and radiation pattern are analyzed for the center probe-coupled hemispherical DRA. The effect of the air-gap between the two dielectric layers on the input impedance and reflection coefficient is investigated. For the TM <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">101</inf> mode, the influence of the air-gap on the resonant frequency and Q-factor is also studied.
