Abstract

The incidence of chromosomal aberrations were evaluated in the lymphocytes of peripheral blood of 70 persons working in different hospitals at Hyderabad and occupationally exposed to X-rays. The age range of the workers was 25-54 years and their duration of serv- ice ranged from 3-25 years. For comparison blood sam- ples were also collected from 50 subjects (controls) who belonged to same age and socioeconomic status and not exposed to any chemical agents. Subjects in the both groups were nonsmokers and nonalcoholics. The radi- ographers showed a significant increase of chromosomal aberrations (8.18%) when compared to controls (0.44%). Further the incidence of chromosomal aberrations in- creased significantly with duration of exposure when compared to controls.
