Abstract

Objective To explore the influencing factors of leakage of urine of indwelling urethral catheter in ICU critical patients and put forward the nursing countermeasures, to provide nursing management for urethral catheter. Methods 102 patients with indwelling urethral catheter hospitalized in ICU of our hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 were selected, and analyzed their clinical data, explored the influencing factors of leakage of urine. Results Of the 102 ICU patients with indwelling urethral catheter, 21 cases had leakage of urine; and there were no statistically significant differences in age, sex, education level, and type of urethral catheter between patients with leakage and patients without leakage (P>0.05), there were statistically significant differences in the length of stay, the time of indwelling urethral catheter, urinary catheter associated urinary tract infection, and constipation between patients with leakage and patients without leakage [(22.29±13.18)d vs.(14.20±7.24)d, (21.81±12.70)d vs.(13.99±9.92)d, 52.38% vs.6.17%, 61.90% vs.12.35%] (P<0.05). The longer the time of indwelling urethral catheter was, the higher the incidences of urinary tract infection, constipation, leakage of urine were. Conclusion The incidence of leakage of urine in ICU patients with indwelling urethral catheter is high. The management of urinary catheter should be done well, the control and prevention of the factors causing urine leakage should be strengthened, the aseptic system should be strictly carried out, and the body resistance of patients should be improved, which can reduce the occurrence of urine leakage. Key words: ICU; Indwelling urethral catheter; Leakage of urine
