Abstract
HeLa cells and diploid human fetal lung fibroblasts in culture synthesize an esterase, which is immunochemically and enzymatically identical with C1s of human serum. No C1q was found in the purified preparations or the concentrated crude cell culture fluids investigated. In the presence of Ca++ the C1s of the cell cultures complexed with a substance, also present in the culture medium, possibly being C1r.
