Abstract

Agricultural growth in the MATOPIBA region boosted the national economy, generating jobs and contributions to Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), especially through grain exports, with soybeans being a significant highlight. Despite the economic benefits, agricultural expansion in MATOPIBA raises environmental and social concerns, including deforestation, fires, soil manipulation, land conflicts among others, affecting the general population, traditional communities and indigenous peoples. In the southwestern area of Piauí is marked by environmental problems, such as deforestation and fires, factors that were analyzed in this research to understand the dynamics of the expansion of the agricultural frontier in Piauí municipalities in the MATOPIBA region. This will be carried out through the analysis of data related to deforestation and fires, evaluating the impacts of agricultural activities.
