Abstract

Pyrolysis mass spectrometry was used to analyze fermentation samples. It is shown that the analysis of poly-3-hydroxybutyric acid (PHB) in aculture of Alcaligenes latus is possible using mass spectrometry with a simple batch oven for pyrolysis. Tests showed that practically any organic matter gives detectable volatiles when heated to pyrolysis temperatures under helium atmosphere.
