Abstract
Practical implementation of biology learning helps to optimize theory mastery. Every school needs to include practical activities optimally to support competency mastery in biology learning. This study aims: (1) to describe the implementation of biology practicum in South Buton Regency; and (2) Identifying the difficulties experienced in the implementation of biology practicum in South Buton Regency. This research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2020-2021 school year. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of this study were biology teachers, school principals, students, and managers of high school biology laboratories scattered in South Buton Regency. data collection instruments using questionnaires and interview guidelines. The data obtained were analyzed using qualitative data analysis with the following stages: (1) data collection; (2) data reduction, (3) data presentation; and (4) drawing conclusions. The results showed that high schools in South Buton Regency carried out biology practicum, but not all topics and schools varied in the quantity of implementation. The difficulties experienced in implementing the practicum include: (1) lack of supporting facilities such as the availability of laboratory buildings, tools and practicum materials; (2) challenges of practicum time management; and (3) preparation of practicum implementation for teachers and students. This shows the need for efforts to improve practicum support facilities, teacher training in an effort to manage practicum time and make practical implementation plans.
