Abstract
Several techniques and attempts have been made to reduce some mechanical problems in machine mechanism especially in automobiles before the invention of crude oil additives. Oil additives have been formulated to enhance engine performance of machines. Measurements have also been carried out to enhance the engine performance_ rheological measurement and pour point depressant into several oil producing companies and were evaluated, and also, the concentration of those additives. Some additives are water soluble while some are oil soluble. The pour point measurement has some, which are below equal and above the standard pour point measurements. Most of the oil products in Nigeria are transported by pipelines, meanwhile, when it is first gotten, it is very viscous, but some treatments are being carried out to reduce the viscosity, so as to enable it to be transported by pipeline. Afterwards additives can be mixed with it. Chemical additives such as: flow improvers, viscosity reducer and pour point depressants are used to model and modify crude oils and oil products in Nigeria so as to enhance; rating, anti-knock, boost octane number of the oils and so on. Combination of different additives in oils and oil products in Nigeria by lubricant type, that is, Engine oils, gear oils, Hydraulic oils, cutting fluid, way lubricant compressor oil etc. and the specific of operating condition which can be temperature, loads, machine part materials environment etc. so the amount of additives sufficient for the solubility of oils and oil products in Nigeria may reach 30 percent.
