Abstract

A symmetrical multilevel dc-dc boost converter with ripple reduction structure for solar PV Systems is analyzed in this paper. The converter is structured by differentially connecting two multilevel boost converters. The advantages of the topology are: high voltage gain, low switch stress and the ability to reduce the input-current ripple and the voltage ripple on the capacitors. The reduction of the capacitors ripple reduces the size requirement for the capacitors when it operates in a complimentary switching manner. A detailed analysis of the converter in the continuous conduction-mode, boundary conduction-mode, power processing, design requirements, nonideality of the converter are discussed. The experimental results of the laboratory prototype of the converter are verified.
