Abstract

This paper presents design and performance analysis of a novel rare-earth-free dual mechanical port machine for hybrid electric vehicle drives. A new rotor structure was proposed to enhance the reluctance torque contribution. The principle of operation, system configuration, and control issues are illustrated firstly. Design consideration of ferrite permanent magnet-assisted reluctance rotor will be discussed as well. Finally, the advanced finite element method was employed to calculate and verify the electromagnetic performance of proposed dual mechanical port machine with ferrite permanent magnet-assisted reluctance rotor.
