Abstract

The paper analyzes a power generating system model consisting of two sub-systems in series. Sub-system-1 consists of four generating units in parallel and sub-system -2 consists of two transformer units in parallel. Three generating units are sufficient to supply the required power and the fourth is added as a redundant unit to enhance the reliability of the system. Similarly, one transformer unit is sufficient to run the system satisfactorily and the second is added to increase the system reliability further. The expressions for several system characteristics useful to system manager, engineers, training supervisors have been obtained using supplementary variable technique.
