Abstract

The steady, two-dimensional, incompressible laminar flow of a jet sheet over the surface of a circular cylinder is investigated analytically. A similarity analysis is applied to obtain a solution that approximates this flow. Closed-form expressions for the stream function and its derivatives, and for the similarity variable are obtained in terms of a single parameter. Expressions for mass entrainment, thrust, and jet-sheet thickness are obtained as functions of turning angle. It is shown that no thrust augmentation is created for the flow considered.
