Abstract

This study analyses a carbon-free electrical energy regional model, the study case is Jeju Island. The Jeju provincial government declared the prospective plan that Jeju Island will be the first Carbon-Free Island in the World by 2030. The main technologies of renewable energy focus on wind power and photovoltaic energy. The forecasting of renewable energy is needed to plan the energy mix in the power system while the island is the carbon-free for electrical energy by 2030. It also prevents blackouts caused by intermittent power sources. The study simulated the regional model of carbon-free electrical energy in Jeju Island by 2030. The hourly-resolution analysis used the hourly data of wind and solar power plants from 2012 to 2017. The feasibility of Jeju power system with high penetration of renewable energies requires optimally energy storage systems and operation of interconnections.
