Abstract

The Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) construction has caused changes in land use both at the project site and in the surrounding area. This study aims to determine the environmental carrying capacity assessment of the area around YIA, and there are Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency, and in Purwodadi District, Purworejo Regency. Data analysis is spatial-temporal using the GIS approach. The land use data in 2009 was taken from the LANDSAT-7 image data, while the land use data for 2017 and 2019 was taken from the LANDSAT-8 image. Analysis of land-use change by overlaying three land use maps. Changes in environmental carrying capacity are calculated based on the ecological footprint and biocapacity. The results of land-use changes analysis indicate that the most decreased land is agricultural, there are 86.28% in Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency, and 85.82% in Purwodadi District, Purworejo Regency. Meanwhile, land use that significantly increased in the area was settlement land (76.87% in Purwodadi District and 86.01% in Temon District) and YIA development covering 587.28 hectares). Based on the analysis of ecological footprint and biocapacity, there has been a decrease in environmental carrying capacity in Purwodadi District, Purworejo Regency from 0.908389 in 2009 to 0.847857 in 2019 and also a reduction of ecological carrying capacity in Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency from 0, 750097 in 2009 to 0.642614 in 2019).
