Abstract
Due to the fast control and switching behaviours of the power electronics-based converters, there are potential interactions between VSC-HVDC systems and the AC grid as well as other power electronics equipment. These oscillation phenomena have been observed in the practical HVDC project while few DC side oscillation was reported. In this paper, the DC side oscillation in VSC-HVDC system is analysed and a suppression strategy implemented in valve control for MMC is proposed consdering the limited signals acquisition. The proposed suppression strategy is validated by offline simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC. The records of the DC current oscillation in the DPT/FAT for the practical project by using actual control and protection equipment with real-time simulator is presented and the suppression strategy is also verified. The offline EMT simulation results and the DPT/FAT results show that the proposed strategy can suppress the DC side oscillation effectively and it has been used in the practical HVDC project.
