Abstract

Based upon the closed–loop evaluation method of handling performance, this paper gives an analysis of the effect of six structural parameters of a car (the stiffness of steering system, the front and rear roll steer coefficients, the ratio of horizontal distance of front axle from vehicle c.g. to the wheelbase, wheelbase, and the moment of inertia of the vehicle about the yaw axis through vehicle c.g.) on its handling performance when performing a lane–change manoeuvre. In addition, by using a hybrid optimisation method which is a combination of orthogonal experiment method and complex figure method, the six structural parameters are optimised.
