Abstract

This article investigates a double-sided series and LCC (S-LCC) hybrid resonant converter for wireless power conversion. For achieving high tolerance to the displacement in the lateral, longitudinal or vertical direction, the coupling requirements are discussed for the magnetic coupler, and a cross-shaped hybrid DD pad is proposed for serving as the magnetic coupler in the presented converter. To concurrently achieve the minimum output current fluctuation and the maximum conversion efficiency, design considerations and design procedures are proposed for tuning the compensation network. Finally, a 250 W prototype is built and tested in the lab. The experimental results show that the S-LCC hybrid converter achieves a maximum conversion efficiency of 94.6% and an output current fluctuation factor of 16.6% for the given displacements.
